Washington Middle School

School Leader Update: Evie Taylor

Dear Washington families and staff,

I am pleased to announce that Evie Taylor has been selected as the interim principal of Washington Middle School for the 2023-24 school year.

Principal Taylor will replace Principal Katrina Hunt who has accepted a new role as a regional executive director of schools for Seattle Public Schools.

Principal Taylor has served as a principal, assistant principal, and teacher in Seattle Public Schools. As a teacher, she taught 8th grade honors math and English language arts, and elementary multi-age classrooms. During the last school year, Principal Taylor served as the assistant principal at Salmon Bay K-8.

Her professional experiences also include serving as a principal of a middle school and an elementary dual language school in the Highline School District, teaching as an academic intervention specialist, and teaching English language learners in middle and high schools in Memphis, Tenn.

Born in New Jersey, Principal Taylor grew up in a military career family, lived overseas, and in many cities across the Midwest, Southeast, and East Coast. She loves the diversity of Seattle and has lived most of her adult life serving Seattle communities as a child welfare and educational advocate for children and youth. In 2002, she earned her master’s in educational leadership and policy studies at the University of Washington.

SPS will begin the search for a permanent Washington principal in the Spring 2023. At that time, SPS will share next steps with the community.

I want to thank Principal Hunt for her leadership and service to Washington Middle School. Principal Taylor began serving as interim principal on July 31, 2023.

Please join me in welcoming Principal Evie Taylor!

Sincerely,

Dr. Brent Jones
Superintendent
