WMS Welcomes New Staff, New Roles

WMS Welcomes New Staff, New Roles

Kieran Harrison has our new Band Director here at Washington Middle School. Kieran is coming from Miami with a rich background in serving as a Musical Theater, Orchestra, and Band Director. He also has supported a range of grade levels and is most excited about Middle School students.

Alfreida McKinney will serve as our administrative intern this school year.  Ms. McKinney is pursuing her admin credentials and has chosen Washington Middle School to be an area of focus. Ms. McKinney has been a vital member of our school community, by connecting with students and families to ensure they are supported and cared for, particularly in highly sensitive moments. I am excited to watch her grow in her leadership.

Please welcome Aimée Nicole Lewis van Roekel to the team as a new Special Education Focus teacher. I am so excited to have someone enthusiastically support our kids and bring in a unique theatre background to the team. Detailed bios will be shared in August!

In addition, Hannah Lewis will be taking on the role of advisory lead. The lead will ensure that there is content in place for each advisory throughout the school year. Other staff members will be responsible for providing some lessons throughout the year under Ms. Lewis’s leadership.

Hi! My name is Stephen Aguayo and I am excited to begin my 12th year in education at Washington Middle School. I began my career in education as a Youth Advocate in Syracuse, NY and have been a special education teacher for the past 6 years. I am brand new to the Seattle area and just moved here in June with my partner Tess, our two cats and dog. In my free time I enjoy hiking with my dog, climbing, going to museums, live music and traveling. I look forward to joining the WMS team for the 24/25 school year.

Education: Calvin University, B.A. English, History

I grew up in the midwest, but have lived in Seattle for 15 years. I have three kids. I’ve worked in digital marketing for the last decade and I’m excited to work in a school. I love Seattle and the PNW but I’m an indoor person, preferring to explore the city over the mountains.

I read a lot of books, mostly SciFi, Fantasy, and music.

I support the Sounders, Reign, and Storm.

I came to WMS from Thurgood Marshall Elementary.  I will continue to support the student I’ve worked with since they were in preschool.

Both of my children attended WMS, many years ago, so I’m very excited to reacquaint myself and deepen my connection with our school.

In my free time, I enjoy being with my 3 grandchildren and playing the piano.

My name is Kieran Harrison and I am excited to be the new band director at Washington Middle School. My passion for teaching middle school band began when I was a young saxophone player. I was inspired by my own middle school band teacher ‘s passion for music and genuine love of her students. Following in her footsteps, I pursued a degree in music education from the University of Miami. Upon graduation, I began my teaching career at Vista PEAK Exploratory K-8 in Aurora, Colorado where I served as band director, orchestra director, and musical theater co-director. After returning to Florida, I directed the bands and orchestras at Oak Grove Middle School in Clearwater, Florida. My fiancé and I have just moved to the Seattle area and I am excited to become a part of the music community here. In my free time outside of school, I enjoy exploring the outdoors, snowboarding, reading a good book, and of course playing music. I can’t wait to meet and start making music with my new students at Washington Middle School. Go Huskies!
