  • Girls With Voices

Girls With Voices, the prevention group at Washington Middle School, led by Christine Milton, has done a great job making a difference in their school community. They have participated in anti-bullying lunch time activities, promoted kindness through the Kindtageous campaign, made a bulletin board to show the harms of marijuana and things you can do instead, made a anti-drug video, raised funds for clean water in India (a global project for WeDay), and painted murals in a girl’s bathroom and boy’s bathroom with the guidance of Lina Cholewinski , an muralist from Urban Artworks. Currently, the girls are getting ready to showcase this year’s work at the Spring Youth Forum where they will compete with other youth groups across the state. Way to go Girls With Voices!

  • Student Led Conferences are February 23, 2016

One of the many benefits to having Advisory this year is that we have a vehicle for preparing and delivering Student Led Conferences (SLC). We consider the relationship between students' families and the school to be of paramount importance. There is NO SCHOOL on February 23rd in the usual sense. On that day at an agreed upon time students and their parents/guardians will come to school. To accommodate parents, the school will be open until 7 pm. Within the next week families will receive an invite for that day from the advisory teacher. Please choose a time during the day if you can as evening times will be more limited.

  • National African-American Parent Involvement Day is Monday, February 8, 2016

In honor of Black History Month, National African-American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) was created in 1995 to motivate families to remain invested in the educational system, while building partnerships in the community.

You are invited to spend the day with your student, attend classes, and meet staff and faculty on February 8th at 7:15 AM in the Washington M.S. Library. A light breakfast will be provided with a brief Q&A session. Families will be welcomed and given their student's schedule to follow for the day. We are excited for your attendance!!
