TAF Update for Washington Middle School

Dear Washington Middle School Community,

I am reaching out to share some challenging news about the Technology Access Foundation (TAF) program at Washington Middle School.

Seattle Public Schools (SPS) leaders have been meeting with TAF leadership to share our current financial circumstances. After a careful evaluation, we are unable to support the current TAF model in the same way without additional funding from outside of the district.

SPS is facing a significant projected budget deficit. The budget presents challenges but does not change our commitment to providing the best possible education for students. We are actively reviewing our current programs and services. Our district, like other school districts across the country, is facing lower student enrollment. Because of the way school districts are funded, lower enrollment means a reduction of funding.

We appreciate our TAF partners. They have been understanding and are making every effort to work within our current budget constraints. We will continue in partnership with TAF to determine the next steps.

Sincerely,

Mike Starosky, Ed.D.
