1/13 Weekly Bulletin

Good evening, Washington Middle School caregivers!

This week, we got to celebrate the Amistad House for ensuring that they were prioritizing being in the classroom. Well done, Amistad! You really are living up to your ‘friendship’ motto.

We received both happy and bittersweet news recently. We found out Interim Principal Williams will be leaving Washington MS at the end of January. We are grateful for the dedication and leadership he brought to our school. He came to us from Missouri with a mission to keep us on track, and he succeeded in helping us navigate a smooth start to the school year. Thank you, Mr. Williams, for your contributions and for your support.

On the bright side, we are thrilled to announce that Principal Hunt will be returning from leave! We have had an amazing start to the school year, and we know that Ms. Hunt will be the perfect leader to guide us through the rest of the year with her strong leadership and enthusiastic spirit. We are looking forward to her return!

MAP Test Next Two Weeks

MAP testing is occurring Tuesday – Friday.  Please ensure your student comes to school with a fully charged laptop ready to show what they have learned so far this year.

The test is a smart test which means the more questions a student gets right, the tougher the assessment gets. Conversely, when students get questions wrong, the test adjusts to find the right level for them. As a school, we seek to be data-driven in our work to ensure that we know every student by story, strength, and need. The MAP is just one data point that helps our faculty and staff ensure that your student gets the resources they need to be ready for high school.

You will be able to see your students’ scores on The Source when testing has wrapped up at the end of next week.

If you have any questions, please contact Assistant Principal Jenn Hesse at jahesse@seattleschools.org.

Global Reading Challenge is Coming to South-End Middle Schools

Washington Middle School is excited to announce that we will be participating in the South-end Global Reading Challenge, organized by our school librarians at Aki Kurose, Mercer, Denny, Meany, and Washington. Our school, along with other South-end schools, will be hosting our own competition with diverse, award-winning titles. Teams will be formed in early February and the competition will take place shortly after. Winners will have the opportunity to compete against other South-end schools. For more information, please contact Ms. Harris at echarris@seattleschools.org.

There is a lot happening at Washington Middle School! Why? Because it’s a great day to be a Junior Husky, all day, every day.
