Gender Neutral Bathroom Update: We have been working with the district over the last few months to make the physical adjustments and safety enhancements to the bathroom near the lunchroom in order to restore it to a gender neutral bathroom. Construction began on this project over the weekend. We will have more information for families and students as the work is completed and when we are ready to transition the space back to a gender neutral space. We also want to recognize the amazing work done by several of our students to raise funds for this project. Students raised more than $1600 for the work. A special thanks and recognition goes out to WMS parent, Karen Emmerman Mazner, for her work in supporting students, for her partnership with the district, and for her advocacy on this critical project.

Student Equity Team Meeting on New Principal: On Thursday, May 23, The Student Equity Team had the exciting opportunity to meet with Assistant Principal Murphy, House Administrator Mr. Cohrs, and Dr. Pritchett, Executive Director of Secondary Schools, with facilitation by Ms. Meyerson and Ms. Kimbrough. Student voice was at the center of the meeting. The Team was able to make connections with administrators that will continue throughout this school year and next year. Students were able to share some of changes they hope to see at WMS. These included accountability for racial bias in staff, as well as changes to some hallway policies, bathroom policies, and lunch policies. The Team also discussed larger cultural shifts they’d like to see in order for WMS to become a more positive, equitable environment for all students. Plans have been made with Dr. Pritchett to get all students’ feedback for principal selection. A survey was distributed to students in advisory today and will be shared with the district. We are excited for the leadership our students are taking and the partnerships they are making to improve WMS!

Schoolwide Dance: Parks and Rec will be sponsoring an evening dance on Thursday, June 6th from 5:30-7:30 in the gym. All students are invited!

Information on Summer programming: Our counseling team has assembled information on summer programming available for students on our WMS main page. If you are in search of meaningful activity for your scholar this summer, check out these opportunities on our main page.

This year, all three grade-levels will go on their respective trips on the last day of school, which is Thursday, June 27th. Information and permission slips will go out in the next week or two. Here is information regarding where each grade-level will go:
