    Vision

Greetings! I am honored and excited to join the Washington Middle School community as your new principal. As your new principal it is my mission to motivate, encourage and drive each and every member of our school community into places of continual excellence as students, educators, parent-partners, community-based partners and life-long learners. Washington Middle School is bursting with great potential to far exceed expectations and to produce learners who refuse to be average and demonstrate that they can be successful.

In order to create an effective entry plan, I spent June and July gathering input from all stakeholders through a series of meetings, review of climate surveys and key informational interviews centered on the climate and culture of Washington Middle School. Through this information gathering my vision for the 2019-20 school year became clear:

The vision for Washington Middle School will focus on three main areas:

    1. Climate and Culture Building:  A major part of our work will focus on making sure each student succeeds.  Our curriculum, instructional practices, and intervention programs will be designed to enhance student success.  The commitment of our staff to support each student is central to their achievement and learning in a safe and friendly environment is key.
    2. Building Relationships:  Enhancing teacher and staff relationships with students, student to student relationships, co-curricular activities, student celebrations, positive behavior intervention systems, and utilizing our counselors, parents and community partners are also essential to ensure that each student is connected with our school.  I believe that the more students connect with the adults in our school, the greater likelihood of their success.
    3. Building Instructional Capacity:  Teachers working together to promote their professional learning is crucial in supporting student achievement.  Our Professional Learning Community should be characterized by a shared mission, vision, and values; collective inquiry, collaborative teams, action orientation and experimentation; results orientation; and continuous improvement. This will support highly engaged instruction and student success.

As we begin our journey, please know that I desire your input as we move toward building a safe and successful school environment for our students. Together we CAN (Cultivate, Accelerate and Nurture) our Junior Huskies and declare that the students of Washington Middle School receive the best educational experience possible and promote to high school ready with the necessary 21st century skills to compete globally.
