WMS Daily Bark! February 1 - 5, 2016

The first semester ends on Friday, February 5th. You, as a student, have 2 days left to finish your assignments.


COLLEGE SUCCESS: Saturday, March 5, we will be having a field trip to the University of Washington for the “Early College Awareness Conference for Students and Families”. This field Trip is FREE and a bus will take students and parents from WMS to the University of Washington and back. If you are interested in going, please see Ms. Enciso for more information and for the permission slips in Room 4B.


SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION FOR COUNSELORS during National Counselor’s Appreciation Week, Feb. 1 – 5. Stop by the Counseling Office, Rm. 134, during your lunch time to leave a message or sign your name on a poster for our counselors.


All WMS students, if your have not returned your orange information form to your Advisory teacher, please bring it to your Advisory on Wednesday and turn it in to your teacher at the beginning of class. This week in Advisory, you will be preparing for student-led conferences held on Feb. 23. Please remember to bring work samples from your classes that you want to put in your advisory folder. Your work samples are an important piece of your advisory portfolio that you will share with your family.


TWINS DAY DANCE is Friday, February 5th. Song requests are now being accepted. Legibly write down your request on paper, submit to the request box, Rm. 115, before or after school.


WMS Work Party for COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS . Earn Service hours on Saturday, Feb. 6, 8 AM-12:30 PM. Help beautify your school with various projects. All interested student volunteers please speak with Principal Follmer. Ask for a special Community Service form in the Main Office.


Winter Host began this week at 2:30 PM. Student schedules are posted on the bulletin board next to Ms. Quigley’s office. All HOST participants please meet in the lunchroom after the final bell. All non-HOST/ non- sports participants must leave the building after the final bell. There will be no student re-entry to WMS or HOST groups once you leave the building. All students in WMS, after 2:30 PM, require a hall pass.


Hurry! Sign up!! Some HOST groups still have open spots and they are filling fast:

Monday HOST: Powerful Voices for 6th Grade girls. Hang with other Young Ladies; discuss real world issues, field trips!

Tuesday HOST: Def Scholars Book Club for 7th Gr. African American boys

Young Men discuss social justice, race, prejudice issues; maybe pizza!

Wednesday HOST: Teen Outreach Program, all 8th Graders. Hang with friends, earn community service hours, have fun!

School to Community, all 7th/8th Graders. Complete community service hours, dissect poetry, and succeed in WMS!

Music Clubs held on various days, have openings and scholarships available for:

Drumline and Jr. Jazz Band on Mondays and Wednesdays

Vocal Jazz and Jr. Fiddlers on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Any student who has a question or schedule change can speak with Ms. Marissa in Rm. 105.


MATH TEAM EXPANDS: In order to accommodate more student participation, Math Team will be having an extra practice session on Thursdays. If you would like to be part of Math Team, please stop by on Thursday or Friday from 2:30 to 3:30, Rm. 108, and speak with Mr. Robertson.


THE SPELLING BEE is buzzing into WMS on Thursday, Feb. 18. Students have participated in classroom Spelling Bees and now class winners, and runners up, are on their way to the school-wide Bee, in the Library, starting 1st Period. Please support our participants as they prepare for the WMS Spelling Bee; they have lists of words to practice spelling!


FREE SPORTS PHYSICALS: Prepare for sports; get your free physical now! Prepare for Spring and Summer sports activities (VOLLEYBALL, CO-ED TRACK, ULTIMATE FRISBEE) by getting your free physical now. Speak with Ms. O’Meara in the Wellness Center to set up an appointment. Free physicals are performed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.


ALL ATHLETES: Arrive 30 minutes prior to game time. Athletic Grade Sheets due for:

Varsity Boys: Thursday, by end of school day; Varsity Girls: Friday, by end of school day.

Athletic Grade Sheets, completely filled/ signed, can be turned in during your practice.
