CLARIFICATION FOR THOSE ENTERING HCC AT 6TH AND 9TH GRADE

Students entering  6th grade from K-5 school will generally receive an initial assignment to their attendance area middle school, except:

     - HCC: Students enrolled as HCC receive an initial assignment to their HCC pathway middle school based on where they live. If they apply for their attendance area middle school during Open Enrollment through May 31, they will be assigned to that school (unless they apply for and are assigned to a higher ranked choice).

     - Students eligible, but not enrolled as HCC, are not automatically assigned to their HCC pathway school; they must apply during Open Enrollment through May 31. If they apply for their guaranteed HCC pathway school; they must apply during Open Enrollment through May 31. Once they apply by this date they will be assigned to their HC pathway. Application to another pathway HC school is subject to availability and no guarantee.  For example, K-5 students who are HC eligible but chose to be in the AL  program at their designated school in lieu of attending their pathway MUST OPT-IN during Open Enrollment.

8th graders currently participating in the HCC program will rise to Garfield into their guaranteed pathway for 9th grade; these students will receive a continuing assignment for next year to their pathway and don’t need to apply during Open Enrollment.

If these same students want to remain at their designated high school instead or want to attend another high school they may do so by applying during Open Enrollment.

Ingraham has typically had 90 seats for HC and a waitlist. For the 2018-19 school year, we anticipate being able to accommodate more availability for HC at Ingraham and thus greatly reducing, if not eliminating, a possible waitlist.

The Advanced Learning website has been updated to mirror the language in Superintendent’s Procedures 3130SP (Student Assignment).
